Romy & Jonathan’s Irish-French wedding weekend in the heart of Burgundy

Romy is Irish, Jonathan is French, from the beautiful region of Burgundy. The two met while studying and launching their respective startups in San Francisco, and for their wedding weekend they brought everyone they love to Château de Varennes: a stunning château in Burgundy with its own chapel and lavender field. Guests flew in from all over Europe and the United States to celebrate their union.

The big day began slowly, with the Irish flag floating in the air and guests gathered by the pool with croissants, coffee or Champagne in hand. Romy wore an A-line gown, beautiful in its subtlety, and they were married at a lovely small-town church nearby that felt wonderfully intimate. The Bride’s cousin, an opera singer, and the Groom’s brother, a professional pianist, performed the Ave Maria, leaving the whole church in awe. As the doors opened, guests showered the couple with dried lavender while the church bells rang.

Cocktail hour unfolded in the gardens, with family around the piano, corn hole games and Champagne à volonté. The reception, masterfully designed and executed by Candice of Quinze Heures Quinze, was filled with tributes to both cultures: traditional Irish dancing, French wedding rituals, French classics sung by everyone, and an Espresso Martini tower for good measure. Guests danced until the very end of the night, then met the next day for a brunch by the pool among the apple orchard, a beautiful way to end a very special weekend.

I always find myself in other international couples, and that is what made this wedding so special: bringing their people together from all paths of life and all continents, not sharing the same culture, language or references, and yet all gathered to celebrate the two people who brought them together.
